This is a fresh, young, home grown wine which is a complete pleasure to drink.

Region: West Sussex
Producer: Carolyn Butler
Winemaker: Simon Woodhead at Stopham Vineyard
Grape: Bacchus (95%)  Pinot Gris (5%)

Vinification:

These grapes are home grown in the vineyards at our farm in Trotton, West Sussex. We visit our vines every day to ensure they remain in excellent health until the moment they are harvested. We pick the grapes by hand and place them in shallow crates so the bunches are not damaged. They are taken directly to Stopham Estate where they are whole bunched pressed before Simon Woodhead turns the juice into this brilliant wine with his legendary ‘passion and precision‘. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks with temperature regulation jackets and the temperature is constantly monitored so that fermentation is slow, correct and gentle to ensure the flavours are maximised.

Tasting Note:

The first thing that strikes you about this exciting wine is its clarity and brightness. Made from 95% of England’s signature white grape, Bacchus, and a 5% dash of Pinot Gris, it has a complexity not found in similar examples of Bacchus. What a nose. Elderflower, apple, pear with an underlying waft of citrus. The flavours follow through to the palate opening up with a ripeness from the Pinot Gris which is well balanced with the crisp acidity creating a cool freshness which goes on and on through to the long elegant finish. The wine reflects harmony from the vineyard to the bottle. Brilliant Bacchus, brilliantly made.
